Design basically enables everyone to design their living environments according to their individual needs. It always refers to people as a social individual. The design theory therefore focuses on designs that support community life and cultural identities and that respect all partners in a design.

DESIGN TEACHING ENABLES THE FUTURE AND SOCIETY TO BE SHAPED
The most important task of design is to design what has not existed so far and to make it visible. The improvement of existing is subordinate to that. Design theory therefore places the design of feasible visions at the center of its training and teaches a culture of the future through design.

DESIGN THEORY IS COMMITTED TO ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY
Artifacts have meanings for different groups at every point in their life cycle, not only in the phase of their intended use. For this reason, design teaching gives students a responsible awareness of the economic, ecological, social and cultural effects of their designs.

DESIGN THEORY FOCUSES ON THE MEANINGS OF ARTIFACTS
For users, the meanings of artefacts are more important than form, material or function, because in use design becomes invisible and functionality is assumed to be elementary. The design theory therefore places the importance of designs above their aesthetics or function.

DESIGN THEORY RESPECTS THE INDIVIDUALITY OF PEOPLE
Design enables designs of artifacts that offer as many users as possible individual options for action in order to design their own living environments. The design theory therefore respects the individuality of the human being and distances itself from a massing of society by the artifact.
